THE LIES WE TELL STUDENTS

There’s a lie we quietly tell students, and it sounds harmless until it ruins years of their lives. That lie is that opportunity is random. That some people just get lucky. That things “work out” and hide in the claims of “Ni God manze”.
But when you slow down and really look, you start to notice a pattern that’s hard to unsee.
Opportunities don’t move randomly. They move towards preparation. Not loudly. Not dramatically. Quietly.
Think about the people you’re seeing relocate right now. Nurses going to the US, the UK, Australia, Canada. Teachers being recruited abroad. Healthcare workers getting visas that others swear are “impossible”.
From the outside, it looks sudden. Like things just opened up overnight. But nothing about it was overnight.
Years ago, when they chose those courses, there was no hype. No guarantee. No applause. In fact, many of them were discouraged. Nursing was called a fallback. Teaching was dismissed as underpaid. Healthcare work was labelled exhausting with little reward.
Yet they still showed up. They did the clinicals. They repeated exams. They built experience. They endured long hours for low pay locally. They stayed in paths that didn’t trend on social media.
Now the world is short-staffed, aging, and under pressure. And suddenly, those same skills everyone ignored are in demand everywhere.
That’s not luck. That’s timing meeting preparation…
