Hello eternal dark abyss ππ I'm someone on this planet who used to believe he would be an engineer his entire life until my parents defined me with my grade.
Who wouldn't want to pass? Who wouldn't want that lucrative mark? Believe it or not....me
I'm at a point in life where I stop and think that maybe all that hardwork I put in to secure a slot the University of Nairobi to study Engineering was just hot air ππ₯²
I remember that day results where released. My God was I happy. I finally did it...I got a grade that could grant me direct entry....no struggling, no back doors. That's when I knew my dreams don't really mean a lot when the economic situation is discussed.
"Wow, anaeza Fanya nursing roho Safi! " I can't deny to some it would be a dream come true....but to me, that was the casket to my dreams.
"Aki si ufanye Tu nursing Baba? Iko secure kabsaa...huezi tarmac ukimaliza kusoma, ata utaenda abroad Tu uomoke mbio mbio ππ" no matter how hard I tried to make my parent see that it was not meant for me; the more she was disappointed by the son he was happy for.
I can't lie y'all, they were my darkest days fr. Long story short, I'm currently a student in a university somewhere here in Kenya pursuing a 'health related course' because it has 'job security ' and in my second semester of year one.
I have to say, neither did I do nursing nor engineering. I got admitted to a course that was kinda intermarrying the two and I'm starting to love it here.
At the beginning I would frown the whole day while attending the lectures but something changed in me slowly but steadily. Deep down I new that a health related course was an economic leverage but I never thought it could bend to allow engineering in it.
Parents have seen more than me and they might know one or two from the years they have lived on this world. They may seem like enemies to our ideas but just listen, it doesn't take anything away from you and the bottom line is that the final decision is still yours.
Maybe what you wanna associate with in life isn't profitable when it's in a certain field. Maybe you believe you are not cut out for a certain field and you're right. But the beautiful thing is that you don't have to do things the exact same way you've seen it being done. Maybe you think that a hospital setting is all about diseases and doctors, but there also the lab scientist, drug researchers and many other jobs within the health care setting. This applies to every other field out there.
Sometimes it doesn't have to be the way you had planned before and that's okay. I became Flexible to my parents thought and it turned out to be marvelous β¨
