If You’re Unsure About What Comes Next, That’s Normal

One of the most unsettling things about this period after KCSE is how quiet it gets.
The exams are over. Results are out. People expect you to “know” what you’re doing next. And yet, many students wake up each day with a heavy feeling because nothing feels clear.
If that’s you, there’s nothing wrong with you.
Most students don’t actually know what they want immediately after Form Four. They just don’t say it out loud. Some pretend they’re sure. Some repeat what they’ve been told. Others rush into decisions just to escape the discomfort of not knowing.
But uncertainty is not failure. It’s part of transition.
I’ve spoken to many students who later admitted that the hardest part wasn’t the grade. It was the pressure to choose quickly, even when they didn’t fully understand their options. That pressure makes people copy their friends’ plans, follow expectations blindly, or settle for the first thing that sounds acceptable.
What helps is slowing down enough to realize this: there isn’t only one correct path after KCSE.
Some people go straight to university. Some start with diplomas or certificates. Others choose TVET, short courses, or even take time to work or build skills before continuing. These paths are not signs of being ahead or behind. They’re simply different ways of starting.
Clarity usually doesn’t come from rushing. It comes from asking questions, listening to other experiences, and giving yourself permission to explore without shame.
So if your mind feels busy but directionless right now, take that as a signal to pause, not panic.
You don’t need to have everything figured out this week. You just need to stay open and honest about where you are.
If you feel comfortable sharing, where do you feel most stuck right now? Is it choosing a path, understanding your options, or handling the pressure around you?
