Is it good to rent outside school hostels?

At first, I thought renting outside the school hostels would be the best move—more freedom, fewer restrictions, and peace from the chaos of campus life. But it hit me hard. I didn’t consider how expensive it would be to furnish a place, pay monthly rent, buy food, and still manage transport to and from school. The freedom came with responsibilities I wasn’t prepared for, and I found myself stretched thin financially and mentally. There were days I had to skip meals just to afford fare, and I constantly felt disconnected from campus events and study groups because I was always rushing home.
Eventually, I learned to adjust. I found a cheaper place closer to school, started budgeting more seriously, and even teamed up with a roommate to cut costs. Looking back, I’d say renting outside can work, but it’s not automatically better. You need to really think through your finances, class schedule, and social needs. If you’re not careful, it can isolate you or make your academic life harder. But if you plan properly, it can also give you space to grow and be independent.
