Do you need a printer in campus or just use cyber cafes?

When I first joined campus, I thought having a printer was a luxury I couldn’t afford, so I relied entirely on cyber cafes. At first, it seemed okay—just walk in, pay a few shillings, print, and go. But when assignments started piling up and deadlines hit hard, the long queues, slow machines, and occasional “hakuna stima” or “printer imekwama” became a nightmare. I remember one time I missed submitting a CAT because the cyber’s printer jammed, and I had no backup. It was frustrating, and that’s when I realized I needed a better plan.
Eventually, I saved up and got a small second-hand printer with a few friends. We split the cost and shared it from our hostel. It changed everything—no more last-minute panics or unnecessary spending. While having your own printer isn’t a must, it really helps with convenience and peace of mind. If you can’t afford one, try finding a reliable cyber near campus or team up with roommates or classmates to get one together. It’s all about finding what works for your budget and your schedule.
