Anyone else get laughed at for asking a question in class?

Yeah, I remember in first year I asked a question during a lecture and a few people laughed. It wasn’t even a dumb question—I was genuinely confused and just trying to keep up. That moment really messed with my confidence. After that, I stopped raising my hand for a while, even when I had no clue what was going on. I’d just write the question down and try to Google it later or ask someone privately. It felt like everyone else had it all figured out, and I was the only one struggling.
But over time, I realized that most people were just as confused—they just hid it better. I started forming small study groups and slowly gained the courage to ask questions again, especially when I saw others appreciating it. Now, I remind myself that asking questions is how we learn. If anyone laughs, that’s on them. I’d rather be the one who understands in the end than stay quiet and remain stuck.
