Nazlin BuddyScholarships & Financial Aid
Every now and then, students miss out on scholarship opportunities because they lack the proper information on them
Instead, they believe in myths like:
1.Scholarships are for genius students.
Being one of the many who always believed that scholarships are for students with straight A's , it is a reality check that most of the scholarship are actually for average students with other factors put into consideration like conduct and leadership.
Not having A plain doesn't disqualify one.
2. Scholarships are for the famous or those with highly distinguished recommenders.
connection from a distinguished recommender may contribute to the right information and opportunity but it doesn't affect application merits.
The application processes are structured that cannot be interfered with through connection.
3.Scholarships are only for studying abroad.
Many students believe that all scholarships entail studying abroad
Well there are several local university scholarship opportunities are available in Kenya for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, ranging from government-backed funding to private trust initiatives.
4. Scholarships cover everything
While "full-ride" scholarships exist to cover tuition, fees, room, and board, they are rare. Many scholarships are partial, covering only tuition or specific costs, leaving students to pay for living expenses, books, travel, or personal costs through savings, loans, or work-study programs.
Scholarships typically cover tuition and mandatory fees and on campus living expenses.
Off campus living expenses and travels are not always not covered by scholarships.
5. Chances of getting one are low
It is true that scholarships are very competitive, but that may be seen as an advantage than a disadvantage since most people ignore them believing they won't get them.
This makes the number of quality applicants to applicants to be few thus more easier to get one with good qualifications.
6.Missing a scholarship is the end of everything
Missing out on a scholarship is not the end of everything it is however normal to feel disappointed because of shattered hopes but most of the time missing out isn't about potential but it could also be about the timing of applications and competition.
conclusion
Scholarships are not reserved for a special group of people.
They are opportunities for students who prepare, apply, and persist.
Many doors remain closed not because students are unqualified but because they never try.
