The First Month in Campus: What Actually Happens
Jenny OdhiamboFreshers & Orientation
Campus life is exciting, confusing, and a little chaotic especially during the first month.
Here’s what most students experience:
1. Chaos Everywhere: Orientation, registration, hostel allocations… you’ll feel lost, and that’s normal.
2. Making Friends: You’ll meet lots of people, but friendships take time to stick.
3. Freedom Hits Hard: No one wakes you up, checks your homework, or manages your time as you’re fully responsible now.
4. Lectures Are Different: Professors expect you to take charge of your learning. No reminders, no hand-holding
5. Imposter Syndrome: Everyone feels out of place at first. Success comes from showing up and discipline, even when unsure.
6. Getting Lost: This happens as you try to find your footing. Expect to wander until you know the shortcuts.
7. Finding Yourself: Campus challenges you to figure out your interests, friends, and goals.
Bottom line: The first month is messy, overwhelming, and life-changing. Everyone’s figuring it out-just like you.
